Rangers could hit gold on Ibrox signing who is worth more than Igamane

Glasgow Rangers recently completed their seventh signing of the summer last week, as Philippe Clement finally completed a deal to bring striker Hamza Igamane to Ibrox after a saga which dragged on for several weeks.

With Abdallah Sima and Fabio Silva returning to their parent clubs after loan spells at Rangers combined with the departure of Kemar Roofe, it is clear Clement needs plenty of attacking reinforcements ahead of next season.

Cyriel Dessers has been linked with a move away from the Light Blues recently, while Sam Lammers is also looking for a move away, which could see a couple more additions to this position.

Cyriel Dessers

Igamane has shown plenty of promise during his spell in his homeland for AS FAR, but joining Rangers could be a challenge that either makes or breaks him.

The Glasgow giants have enjoyed success in the past with regard to signing players from more obscure clubs, most notably Alfredo Morelos in 2017. Can Igamane replicate the Colombian’s goal-laden spell at Ibrox? Only time will tell.

Hamza Igamane’s market value at Rangers

Clement hailed the Moroccan upon his arrival in Glasgow last week, saying: "We know it will be a big change in culture and a new country for Hamza to adapt to, but as a club we will support him on and off the pitch to settle in here. He will bring a fresh presence to our attacking options.”

It is clear the Belgian has big plans for the player, and he could certainly surprise a few people next season.

Across just 58 senior matches since making his professional debut during the 2020/21 campaign, the 21-year-old has scored 16 goals while chipping in with eight assists.

This works out as a goal contribution once every 2.4 matches, a decent ratio for a player who is still developing at a rapid rate.

Morelos didn’t take long to hit his stride following his move to the club in 2017, scoring 18 times during his maiden campaign, which went a long way in endearing the player to the Ibrox faithful.

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

Igamane might not be the marquee name which the supporters are craving, but this unknown quantity could be a handful in the Premiership next season, no doubt about it.

While his transfer fee remains unknown at the moment, according to Transfermarkt, he is currently valued at just €1m (£850k), which isn’t much on the surface, but this value will only continue to increase if he makes his mark at Rangers in the next few months.

While the club have failed to win the previous three league titles, having to settle for success in the cup competitions, they have made numerous signings which could return a substantial profit if they perform.

One player is Danilo, who, despite enduring a difficult debut season in Scotland, has the potential to be one of the finest strikers in the country during the 2024/25 campaign.

Not only that, but the Brazilian is also worth around six times more than latest signing Igamane.

How much Rangers paid for Danilo

Having lost Morelos and Ryan Kent last summer, Michael Beale sought players who could replace the two attacking players, which led to him pursuing a deal for Danilo, who was then at Feyenoord.

Towards the end of July, Beale finally reached an agreement with the Dutch side, securing his signature for a fee in the region of £6m. While it was a big outlay, it looked as though it could be money well spent.

Danilo

Unfortunately for him, his maiden season for Rangers was overshadowed by two major injuries which hampered any progress he wanted to make.

Danilo’s Rangers statistics last season

The 25-year-old made just 21 appearances in all competitions for the Light Blues, scoring six goals while registering five assists, not bad numbers considering the circumstances.

He suffered a fractured cheekbone during a win over St Johnstone in September, before returning when Clement took over the following month.

Danilo demonstrated his talents under the Belgian before a season-ending knee injury against Hearts just prior to Christmas set his progress back once again, leaving Clement short of options to lead the line.

Despite his injury setbacks, when Danilo was fit and playing, he offered a solid threat in the final third. The striker averaged three shots per game in the Premiership last season along with succeeding with 50% of his dribbles, averaging 0.9 key passes and creating a big chance.

Glasgow Rangers striker Danilo.

Clement will be hoping he is back at 100% full fitness ahead of the new season. Could he compete with Igamane for the main centre-forward role next term?

Danilo’s market value at Rangers

According to Transfermarkt, Danilo is currently valued at €6m (£5m), which is impressively around six times more than Igamane’s current market value.

While it may be slightly lower than the £6m that Rangers paid to sign him last year, if Danilo can hit double figures with regard to goals next season, this value will certainly rise, meaning the Gers could hit the jackpot on the forward.

Igamane’s arrival will also see the pair battle it out for the number nine slot in Clement’s 4-2-3-1 formation, especially if Dessers leaves during the summer.

While a fit Danilo offers more experience at this level, should the Moroccan take his chances early, then he could force his way into the starting XI sooner than expected.

It promises to be an exciting proposition seeing two players fight it out every week to make the starting XI and could give Clement a selection headache, something that he would have wished for at stages last season.

Rangers hit gold with Beale signing who's now worth more than Diomande

Flashes of brilliance were seen throughout 2023/24 by the former Feyenoord player, but with more consistent game time next term, he could finally repay his £6m transfer fee.

With the Light Blues looking to do well in four competitions during 2024/25, rotation will be imperative to any success. This means having a few players ready to perform for each position will be crucial for the Gers in what could be their most important season in years.

Reliable journalist: Sheffield Wednesday eyeing League One title winner

Sheffield Wednesday have reignited their interest in a top flight talent who won the league with his loan club last season, according to an update from reliable journalist Joe Crann.

Big transfer summer for Rohl at Hillsborough

The Owls did an incredible job to survive in the Championship this season, with a swift return to League One looking extremely likely earlier in the campaign. The arrival of Danny Rohl as manager completely changed their fortunes, however, and they secured their place in the second tier of English football on the final day, winning at Sunderland.

The key now is for Wednesday to kick on and not find themselves in another relegation battle next season, and the biggest positive to have emerged in recent weeks is that Rohl has signed an extension at Hillsborough until 2027, easing fears that he would be snapped up by another club this summer.

New signings have been linked with the Owls, with former Manchester City player Cameron Humphreys emerging as an option, according to one report. Queens Park Rangers, Millwall and Swansea City are all thought to be in the mix, however, with the 25-year-old currently at Rotherham United.

Elfsborg midfielder Michael Baidoo has also been backed to move to Hillsborough, coming in as an upgrade on Will Vaulks, who has left the club after a solid spell there. Middlesbrough, Hull City and Luton Town are all considered contenders to snap him up, too.

Sheff Wed reignite interest in Premier League talent

According to Crann on X, Sheffield Wednesday's interest in Brentford's Myles Peart-Harris has returned, with a potential summer move on the cards after eyeing him up during the January transfer window:

"Hearing that SWFC have reignited their interest in Myles Peart-Harris after he helped Portsmouth to the League One title last season. Wednesday were looking at him in January, and consider him an attacking possibility for 2024/25."

Peart-Harris could be an exciting addition to Wednesday's squad, with the 21-year-old enjoying a successful spell on loan at Portsmouth during the second half of the 2023/24 season, ensuring that Pompey won League One and sealed a return to the Championship in the process.

He made 12 league appearances in total for the south coast side, scoring twice, and Portsmouth manager John Mousinho lauded his many qualities as a player during his time at Fratton Park:

"He can effectively play as six, eight or 10 for us – or potentially off the left. We want him higher up the pitch, but he has the athletic capability to play as a six. He’s a really powerful player who can go past players and have a big impact for us."

Ihiewke upgrade: Sheffield Wednesday eyeing up perfect Valery partner

Added depth and quality are vital to Rohl ahead of next season, ensuring that Wednesday can aim for a much higher finish in the league, and Peart-Harris could be an immediate key man, as well as a player who should get even better in the coming years, having spent 11 years in Chelsea's fabled Cobham academy. He even has three Premier League appearances to his name, further showcasing his pedigree.

Farke lining up Leeds swoop for dream Rodon replacement

The summer transfer window officially opens for business later this month and Leeds United could use to make some changes to their playing squad.

Daniel Farke's side narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking as they were beaten 1-0 by Southampton at Wembley last month.

The Whites made it to the Championship play-off final in the capital, only to lose to an Adam Armstrong goal, and they will now have to fight it out in the second tier for a second season in succession.

Their failure to make their way back to the top-flight looks set to have an effect on the squad, as Crysencio Summerville has been linked with Liverpool in the Premier League and academy graduate Archie Gray has been linked with German giants Bayern Munich and Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.

Archie Gray

The Yorkshire-based outfit may also have to continue without central defender Joe Rodon after he returned to parent club Tottenham Hotspur upon the end of his loan spell at Elland Road.

However, Leeds are already reportedly looking at a centre-back who could come in as a dream replacement for the Wales international this summer.

Leeds United's interest in recently-promoted colossus

According to Afton Bladet, via The 72, the Whites are one of the clubs lining up a swoop to sign FC St. Pauli central defender Eric Smith ahead of the 2024/25 campaign as Farke looks to add to his options at the back.

The report claims that they are joined by fellow Championship side West Bromwich Albion, who also made the play-offs this season, in their pursuit of the titan.

However, it does not reveal how much the German side are prepared to sell him for, or if they are even willing to entertain offers for the 27-year-old star.

St. Pauli won the 2. Bundesliga this season and will play in the Bundesliga next term, partially thanks to Smith's superb performances at the back, and it also remains to be seen whether or not the player would be willing to turn down a chance to play top division football in Germany to make the move to England.

If Farke and his team can get a deal over the line for the centre-back this summer, though, he could be a fantastic replacement for Rodon, who may or may not return to Yorkshire.

Football.london recently reported that it is unclear if Leeds will have the funds to pursue a permanent deal for the Welsh star, who they claimed is set to have plenty of interest this summer, after they failed to get promoted, which places doubt over his future at the club.

Joe Rodon's season in numbers

The right-footed brute arrived at Elland Road on a season-long loan deal last summer to get regular minutes under his belt and enjoyed a terrific campaign in the second tier.

Joe Rodon passes the ball for Leeds United against Leicester City.

He started 42 matches in the Championship as well as all three of the club's play-off matches – taking his tally to 45 league starts in total – at the heart of the Leeds defence.

The 26-year-old defender formed a partnership with Pascal Struijk during the first half of the campaign and then with compatriot Ethan Ampadu after the turn of the year, and helped the side to keep 17 clean sheets in his 42 regular season starts – with two in three play-off games on top of that.

As you can see in the table above, Rodon showcased his defensive dominance throughout the Championship season with his fantastic duel success rate.

He dominated opposition attackers on the deck and in the air on a regular basis, whilst also being a very reliable passer of the ball with his 91% pass accuracy.

The Spurs loanee was also forward-thinking and progressive in possession as he ranked within the top 16% of his positional peers in the division for progressive passes per 90 (4.35).

This shows that Rodon consistently looked to play forward and break lines on the ball to find his teammates in dangerous positions to break down opponents.

Farke could now land a perfect replacement for the Welsh star by convincing Smith to turn down a chance to play in the Bundesliga and to sign for Leeds instead.

Why Eric Smith is a dream replacement for Joe Rodon

Firstly, the St. Pauli ace is a right-footed central defender and this means that he could slot in perfectly to the right side of the centre-back pairing for the Whites, with either Ampadu or Struijk then playing to the left of him.

The Swedish titan could also be a fantastic player to come in for Rodon as he is a progressive passer at the heart of the defence, who can consistently break lines and play the ball forward.

He ranked within the top 9% of centre-backs in the 2. Bundesliga for progressive passes per 90 (5.83) this season, which speaks to his ball-playing nature – making him a like-for-like with the Welshman in that respect.

This shows that Leeds would still have a centre-back on the right side of their backline who could be relied upon to play out from the back consistently and effectively.

Along with his impressive play in possession, Smith's defensive work for the 2. Bundesliga champions also suggests that he could be a dream replacement for Rodon.

As you can see in the table above, both players achieved similar numbers from a defensive perspective in their respective leagues this season.

They are both dominant centre-backs who can win the majority of their duels, on the deck and in the air, and look to win possession back through recoveries, tackles, and interceptions multiple times per game.

Overall, Smith's impressive form in and out of possession for St. Pauli in Germany suggests that he would come in as a like-for-like replacement for Rodon, which is why the 6 foot 3 colossus could be a superb signing for Farke.

Arsenal's 'inferiority complex' to Man City may stop Gunners from winning Premier League title as Graeme Souness blasts Mikel Arteta for 'extreme' defensiveness vs Man City

Graeme Souness has blasted Arsenal's defensive set-up against Manchester City, criticising their 'inferiority complex'.

  • Says Gunners have 'inferiority complex'
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Scottish pundit called Sunday's top-of-the-table clash a "horrible spectacle", criticising Arteta's decision to park the bus after going down to 10 men against Guardiola's side. According to Souness, the Gunners should have utilised their attacking talent more, claiming: "If you play like that 100 times, 95% of the time you'll concede goals."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Arsenal have received plenty of criticism for their defensive approach in the second half of the City game, but ultimately they had a lead to defend and almost left the Etihad with all three points. Arteta has fired back at these complaints, and argued that trying to play more expansively with 10 men would have been a naive approach.

  • WHAT SOUNESS SAID

"Arsenal had such an inferiority complex against City," Souness said on the podcast. "They’ll be coming away from that game thinking: ‘Wow, they’re so much better than us, we’ll never win the league’. Even in the first half they weren’t really matching City blow for blow. City are a fabulous team but when you go there, you have to be brave and take them on. Right now, teams are going to the Etihad and they’re beaten before the game has even started… They’ve shown an inferiority complex when it comes to City. They were happy to sit back and take whatever came their way at the Etihad, without getting up the pitch and trying to cause a problem. I don’t think that was a great sign."

    WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL?

The opinions of pundits like Souness won't bother Arteta, given that the Spaniard was only seconds away from masterminding a famous away win at the Etihad. His team will have to lick their wounds and go again; this Saturday, they welcome newly promoted Leicester to the Emirates. Nothing less than three points will do for Arsenal.

Andrew Salter snares four as Glamorgan defend 150

Gloucestershire suffer top-order collapse as spinners dominate in run chase

ECB Reporters Network29-Aug-2020Andrew Salter claimed four for 20 as Glamorgan kick-started their Vitality Blast Central Group campaign with a 15-run victory over Gloucestershire at the Bristol County Ground. The visitors ran up 150 for 7 on slow pitch after losing the toss, Chris Cooke top-scoring with 51 not out and Ryan Higgins returning 3 for 29.In reply, Gloucestershire could manage only 135 all out, with Glamorgan spinners Salter and Prem Sisodiya dominating after taking the new ball. Graeme van Buuren and George Scott did their best, but from 70 for 6 their efforts were in vain.Glamorgan were 40 for 2 at the end of the six-over Powerplay, having lost Dan Douthwaite lbw to Matt Taylor in the second over, and Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie, who looked in decent touch until attempting to pull a Higgins full toss and clothing a catch to short fine leg.Gloucestershire spinners Tom Smith and van Buuren then did an excellent job, Smith claiming two wickets and van Buuren finishing his four-over spell with 1 for 20. Those figures would have been even better had Cooke not been given a life on six when lofting a drive towards long-on. Ian Cockbain slipped as he started to run in for the catch and ended up spilling a low chance. It was van Buuren who took the important wicket of Billy Root in the tenth over, the opener having moved to 29 off 31 balls before carelessly reverse sweeping a catch to short third man.Smith bowled Marchant de Lange and had Kiran Carlson stumped giving him the charge as Glamorgan slumped to 88 for 5 before Cooke and Callum Taylor restored respectability with a stand of 43 in five overs.Taylor showed his promise with 23 off 20 balls, while Cooke, who faced 35 balls, hit sixes with a slog-sweep off Smith and a majestic drive over long-on off David Payne.Higgins took two wickets at the end of the innings and Glamorgan’s score looked under par. But their chances improved when Sisodiya bowled a maiden to Miles Hammond at the start of Gloucestershire’s reply and Salter followed up by bowling Chris Dent for a duck.Glamorgan’s decision to open with spin at both ends reaped further dividends when Hammond was caught at extra over off left-arm spinner Sisodiya’s second over to leave the home side 6 for 2. That became 13 for 3 when Cockbain was caught at deep midwicket off Salter and after six overs Gloucestershire were becalmed on 24 for 3.

Sisodiya finished his four-over spell from the Pavilion End with 1 for 12, the 21-year-old having caused problems for every batsman.Higgins then fell lbw to Salter, bringing Gloucestershire’s new T20 captain Jack Taylor to the crease at 29 for 4. James Bracey briefly threatened a recovery and had moved to 17 when middling a high full toss from Salter straight to deep midwicket and departing with a shake of the head.Callum Taylor had been brought on to replace Sisiodiya with his offbreaks and at 54 for 5 Gloucestershire had faced one over of seam in the 11 bowled. When Taylor was caught behind off de Lange to make it 65 for 6, Glamorgan had a grip their seamers never looked like relinquishing, some belligerent blows from Scott and van Buuren, who hit two sixes in succession off Taylor, proving too little, too late.It was a valiant effort by van Buuren, in particular, but Gloucestershire needed 21 off the last over, bowled by Timm van der Gugten, and the task proved too great.

Reporter shares "huge" transfer update he’s heard out of West Ham

Prospective new West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has already been given a transfer boost at the London Stadium after an exciting new update emerged.

Julen Lopetegui set to take over from David Moyes at West Ham

It has been confirmed by the Hammers that David Moyes will be leaving the club at the end of the season, with Lopetegui on course to come in.

In fact, the former Wolves manager has already agreed terms with Irons officials, with details now being finalised and contracts being drawn up ahead of a move to London, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Spaniard will have plenty of work to do ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, both on the training pitch and in the transfer market. For example, West Ham have conceded a whopping 70 goals in the Premier League this season, more than any side outside of the bottom three.

New additions at the back could therefore be targeted, but by the looks of it, defence isn’t the only area West Ham could bolster.

“Huge” West Ham transfer update

Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke shared news out of West Ham in the last 48 hours, revealing that Lopetegui has been given assurances by the Hammers regarding transfer funds.

In fact, Lopetegui and technical director Tim Steidten will be working with a “huge” summer budget, with the reporter adding that the club are set to prioritise bringing in a new centre-back, left-back and striker to the London Stadium over the coming months.

Former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui

Lopetegui will more than likely be delighted that he will be able to make his mark in the transfer market straightaway, and there have already been rumours about specific signings.

In attack, Barcelona forward Vitor Roque has reportedly been offered to West Ham after agents reached out for talks, with the youngster potentially available to sign on loan. Another teenage attacker, Wesley Gassova, is also on the radar, with a new £15m+ bid being made to Corinthians after an opening offer was turned down.

Moyes would still be in the job if West Ham had signed £86m star & Palmer

The current narrative might be very different had this move been made in 2023.

ByAngus Sinclair May 8, 2024

Elsewhere, the Hammers, alongside rivals Tottenham Hotspur, are thought to be leading the way to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney and are primed to launch a £50m bid for the England international, who appears to be on course to leave the Bees.

There could also be a number of departures over the coming weeks as well, with Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell and Danny Ings among those “on the chopping block” according to Football Insider.

Meanwhile, those at West Ham are expecting star attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta to leave this summer, so Lopetegui may need a replacement for the Brazilian alongside a centre-back, left-back and striker.

Man Utd struck gold on “sensational” ace who’s worth the same as Fernandes

Over the past decade, it’s fair to say that the transfer strategy at Manchester United has been far from successful.

From overpaying for talent to signing players who simply don’t even fit the manager’s system, it’s all gone down under the ownership of the Glazer family.

Manchester United fans protest against the Glazers at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have typically attempted to sign the big names for large fees in the hope that they will somehow completely change the club’s performance on the field.

Obviously, that’s not been the case, but there have been a few examples of United signing young talent, with one of those purchases now being worth the same amount as another successful acquisition, Bruno Fernandes.

Diogo Dalot’s first campaign under Erik ten Hag

Diogo Dalot has been the centre of much hype and attention recently, particularly for his consistent performances within an extremely inconsistent side, but he’s had to be patient for his chance, bearing in mind that he signed back in 2018 for £19m under Jose Mourinho.

Despite playing 26 games in the Premier League, Erik ten Hag wasn’t convinced by Dalot’s overall game, often rotating him with Aaron Wan-Bissaka when the latter returned from injury.

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.

The 25-year-old even lost his place in the starting lineup towards the end of the season, with the fact that he didn’t get a single second on the field in the FA Cup final against Manchester City highlighting the position he was in at the time.

Even during the start of this campaign, Dalot was forced to sit on the bench in the opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers, only getting a chance in the side due to injuries, which may have just given the Portuguese defender the break he needed.

Man Utd can supercharge Dalot with move for £35m-rated Varane replacement

The Man United target could transform the way Ten Hag’s side play.

ByTom Lever Apr 6, 2024 Diogo Dalot's transfer value in 2024

It seems that the catalyst in Dalot’s rapid development this season has simply come down to one aspect: he’s got a run of games under his belt where he’s performed well.

The most important attribute that any player in world football can have is confidence, and this season, the former Porto ace clearly has that in abundance.

Whether he’s played as a left-back or in his usual right-back role, Dalot has been excellent over his 29 Premier League games, picking up four goal contributions and helping the side keep six clean sheets.

To add further context to just how impressive he’s been, football creator Liam Canning has described him as "sensational,” while football analyst StatmanDave has claimed that he’s been United’s “best player” on multiple occasions.

As a result, Dalot is now one of the Red Devil’s most valuable assets, which comes down to his versatility, reliability, and the potential that he still hasn’t quite reached.

Right now, the number 20 is United’s highest-valued defender by far, while also being the joint-fourth most-valuable full-back in the Premier League, according to CIES' Football Observatory.

Yet, even with Dalot’s improvement, it’s still difficult to believe that a full-back who wasn’t even first-choice at the start of the season is worth the same amount as Fernandes, who leads the way in the United squad for almost every attacking statistical metric.

Overall, it’s quite obvious that Man United truly hit the jackpot by taking the risk to sign Dalot six years ago, as they now have a long-term right-back who’s desperate to bring trophies back to Old Trafford.
