Man City fans love Bernardo Silva comments

A number of Manchester City supporters have sent their love to Bernardo Silva after he scored the winner against Leicester City at the weekend.

The 27-year-old has become a fan favourite at the Etihad Stadium after his £43m from AS Monaco in 2017, with the Portugal winger scoring 36 goals and setting up 44 in 205 appearances under Pep Guardiola.

It was reported over the summer by Fabrizio Romano that Silva wanted to ‘try something new’ after winning every possible trophy in England during his time at the Etihad. However, a move never happened and he remains a key clog of Pep Guardiola’s side, starting the previous three games, all of which City have won, with a cumulative scoreline of 11-0.

Silva’s second half winner at the King Power Stadium against Leicester City was the difference in a tight affair on Saturday, and after the game, he expressed his love for the club to BBC’s Match of the Day [via City Xtra].

The 27-year-old said: “I love the club, I love my teammates, I love football here. I’m enjoying it and I’m always going to give my best.”

Miandad aims to revive association cricket

Pakistan’s domestic cricket is likely to undergo yet more structural changes, with the emphasis moving once again back from regions to departments and private organisations

Pakistan’s domestic cricket is likely to undergo yet more structural changes, with the emphasis moving once again back from regions to departments and private organisations. Javed Miandad, the PCB’s director general, has said more private companies and MNCs will be given affiliation by the board to raise first-class teams, in a bid to replicate the domestic formula that Pakistan’s national side prospered from in the 70s and 80s.”MNCs and banks will have an open invitation from the board to raise good teams and take part in our first-class cricket,” Miandad told Cricinfo. “They will be encouraged to raise Under-19 teams, put in development schemes and so on.”Pakistan’s first-class structure, in recent years, has been centred around regional cricket. The previous two administrations of Shaharyar Khan and Nasim Ashraf were both keen proponents of regional-based cricket and departments and banks, in their scheme of things, were to be slowly sidelined. This is a vision favoured by, among others, Imran Khan. But others, including Miandad, Rashid Latif and Sarfraz Nawaz, have long argued that given Pakistan’s relatively poor economic health, organisations such as Habib Bank and PIA are crucial for cricket, because they offer a livelihood to poor, uneducated but talented cricketers. This season’s structure, Miandad said, will remain the same and the changes will only come after the plan has been vetted and approved by the various stakeholders: as such there is not set timeline for when these changes will occur.”This is like going back to Abdul Hafeez Kardar’s original plan for domestic cricket,” Miandad said, referring to the first captain of Pakistan and one of its most influential board heads, who first invited institutions to play domestically in the early 70s. “That vision served Pakistan well and between 1983 and 1996 in particular, when we had this set-up, Pakistan really prospered,” Miandad said.Region-based teams, such as Karachi and Lahore, or Sind and Punjab (in the Pentangular), will not, however, be sidelined completely. Instead, they will be given greater autonomy to run their own affairs, a decentralisation in a sense of the administration of cricket in the country. One charge against previous board administrations has been that they have controlled regional associations far too much and become embroiled in their politics.”We are saying to regional associations, take control of your cricket and handle your affairs and run it. Karachi, Lahore they should all take more responsibility and run cricket,” Miandad said. “Recently, the board has been giving them money – which is fine – but regions have taken it and not done as much with it as possible. These associations need to find players, bring them up from the grassroots and hand them to Pakistan cricket. The PCB will help you but you have to do the work yourself.”The plan, Miandad said, needs time. “We had two set-ups before this which tried regional cricket and it hasn’t really worked. We have to look at this and we need time.”

Adam Pope talks about Leeds’ Jamie Shackleton

Adam Pope has delivered his verdict on Leeds United starlet Jamie Shackleton, and has tipped him to have a “big impact” this season in the Premier League.

What’s the story?

The 21-year-old has made a couple of appearances for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the top-flight, but the only game that he has started came in the Carabao Cup second round clash against Crewe when he played the full 90 minutes.

Now, in response to a fan’s tweet about this season being a break-out one for Shackleton, Pope delivered his take on the young midfielder.

He said: “Thing is he’s made 60 plus appearances so he’s never been far away from it under Marcelo. If he has better luck with injuries he could continue to have a big impact.”

Up to Bielsa now

Yet to make a start in the Premier League this season, Shackleton’s chances of doing so were boosted earlier in the summer when Leeds opted against signing a new central midfielder, or at least failing to do so.

The 21-year-old is one of the players who should benefit hugely from that decision, and while he’s yet to really make his mark on the first-team just yet, it’s not because his manager doesn’t rate him.

In fact, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Southampton in the Premier League last season, Bielsa said: “I believe in Shackleton as an important alternative for Leeds United. He’s in a similar process to that of Pascal (Struijk).

“The only thing is that Pascal has a continuity that Shackleton hasn’t been able to have. I consider him a player that I can trust and I’m satisfied with what he has brought to the team. Apart from that, he is a very serious player, very applied and very conscious of what is needed to play at this level.”

And, speaking after his cameo in the 5-0 win over West Brom earlier last year, the Leeds boss said of the 21-year-old: “Good organisation, energetic, he’s quick, he can surprise opponents, plays in a position which has many varieties as a box-to-box midfielder.”

But as always, actions speak louder than words, and while Bielsa may publicly voice his approval of Shackleton, the only real way he can show that is by giving him the opportunities to start in the Premier League.

With no new central midfielder arriving at Elland Road over the summer, the Leeds boss now has the perfect chance to finally unleash Shackleton.

Meanwhile, this Leeds United transfer target is now set for contract talks…

Quem sabia era o ex-presidente Peter, ele tinha o projeto dele lá. O presidente Abad sabia e estava, inicialmente, no projeto do Peter e procurando outros terrenos. Nós, a torcida tricolor, queremos estádio.

A liberação, no entanto, é complexa.

Liverpool linked with Declan Rice move

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing West Ham and England midfielder Declan Rice next summer, along with a number of their rivals.

The Lowdown: Rice impresses for club and country

The 22-year-old has emerged as an impressive midfielder in recent years, standing out as a key man for both the Hammers and the Three Lions.

Rice helped West Ham qualify for the Europa League last season, while he also reached the final of Euro 2020 with England, starting every game in the tournament.

The Latest: Liverpool linked with move

According to 90min, Liverpool are keen on the idea of signing the Englishman next summer, at a point when Jurgen Klopp may be looking to freshen up his midfield.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are also reportedly interested, however, so the Reds could face a fight to sign Rice.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-2/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Potentially overpriced?

While the £63million-rated Rice is a good young player – Chris Sutton hailed him as an ‘outstanding talent’ this week – whether or not he would justify a likely huge price tag is up for debate, considering he hasn’t yet shone at the very top level for an extended period.

Not only that, but in Fabinho, Liverpool already have someone who masters the No.6 role, so it is hard to see how the England man would fit into the team unless Klopp opts to use two out-and-out defensive midfielders.

It feels more likely that Rice will end up going to one of the other Premier League high-fliers, given their penchant for spending big sums of money on players compared to the Reds.

In other news, some Liverpool fans have reacted to rumoured Reds interest in another Premier League player. Read more here.

Symonds and Watson create selection poser

Australia should consider playing both Andrew Symonds and Shane Watson in the first Test against New Zealand, according to the former captain Steve Waugh

Australia should consider playing both Andrew Symonds and Shane Watson in the first Test against New Zealand, according to the former captain Steve Waugh. The idea has also won qualified support from Michael Hussey, who believes Watson can do the job as the third fast bowler provided he does not have to send down so many overs that his injury-prone body is in danger of breaking down.Symonds has been Australia’s regular Test No. 6 in the past couple of years and Watson took on the role during the recent tour of India. Both men have been named in the 13-man squad for the Gabba Test, which starts on Thursday, and Waugh said it should not be assumed that one of them would miss out.”It’s a difficult choice,” Waugh told the . “But Watson did very well [in India] and he might come in as a third quick. I think Australia would like to have both those players in the team if they can.”Symonds has struggled for batting form at first-class level but in his first match back in Australian colours, in the Twenty20 game against the All-Stars on Friday, he struck 45 from 35 balls. Ricky Ponting, Australia’s captain, believes Symonds is one of those players who lift at the highest level.”It is the same with a lot of those really talented players,” Ponting said. “Michael Clarke is a good example of that, his average is probably low 40s at state level and mid 40s, 45 at Test level.”He’s like Gilly [Adam Gilchrist], if he gets in and gets going a Test match can change very, very quickly. You almost need that sort of player in that one to six role, he’s good at batting with the tail, you know he can clear the fence in that situation and keep the scoreboard ticking over.”But if Symonds does regain his No. 6 position it creates a question for the selectors on whether to include Watson as well, and if so, who misses out. Jason Krejza would be desperately unlucky to be dropped after taking 12 wickets on debut and Stuart Clark, although he did not play in Nagpur, would be a valuable member of the attack at the Gabba.Using Watson as the third seamer and batting him at No. 7 would be a bold move but his bowling form in India was impressive and he was Australia’s third leading wicket taker with ten victims. But Watson is enjoying a rare injury-free year after his past few seasons have been constantly interrupted by fitness concerns, particularly hamstring problems, and Hussey hopes Watson is not asked to compromise his body with too great a workload.”His bowling is very under-rated, he’s always had good pace,” Hussey told . “In the last Test he got 4 for 40 in the second innings on a pretty flat wicket where he swung the ball.”I think he could do a pretty good job in that role. What he’s been through in the last couple of years though you wouldn’t want him bowling 30-odd overs in a match, you’d rather him bowling 15-20.”The selectors will release one member from the 13-man group on Tuesday and the final makeup of the side might not be decided until the morning of the match. Clarke and Brett Lee, both of whom lost significant weight in India due to viruses, are expected to be fit for Thursday’s Test.
