A week into his retirement, Ricky Ponting is already developing a taste for life after cricket.Ponting admitted he quite enjoyed getting to a Test match right on the appointed 10.30am start time rather than two hours before, and that he was not exactly sorry to be missing training for the Hobart Hurricanes in Melbourne. This was in order to be conveyed around Bellerive Oval in the back of a ute as a way of saying thankyou to the Tasmanian cricket faithful, who numbered 6,221 on the first day of the first Test against Sri Lanka.The question of Ponting’s life after Test matches has been pondered by many in the wake of his emotional exit at the conclusion of the South Africa series, and the man himself is wondering aloud at how the pull of participating in the game will be diminished by the lack of Australian duty to sustain him.”I’ll see how I feel about cricket at the end of this season,” Ponting told Channel Nine. “It might be a little harder for me I reckon, playing those last few games out, knowing there’s not the bigger picture in mind as there’s always been for me when I’ve played state cricket, which is to play for Australia.”While Cricket Australia and the national captain Michael Clarke are equally keen to have Ponting still involved with the team in a coaching or mentoring capacity, the attraction of a lucrative and far less stressful role as a television commentator has its appeal.”I’d like to work in the media at some stage, at some time, in some way, shape or form,” Ponting said. “Just being around cricket for as long as I have and being part of successful teams, I think I’ve got a pretty good knowledge of the game and I’m pretty insightful on the game I think. So we’ll wait and see what happens.”Ponting was memorably granted a guard of honour by South Africa’s captain Graeme Smith at the WACA ground as he commenced his final innings, and in Hobart he and his family were flanked by the ranks of cricketers from his home club of Mowbray in Launceston before starting on his valedictory lap of the oval.”As we all know things came to an end for me last week, so to be here in a different capacity today is good fun,” Ponting said. “I’m excited about this next little phase of my life, all my family here and a lot of my club-mates have even made it down for the game – they probably bought all their tickets weeks ago thinking I was going to be playing, but unfortunately I’m here as a spectator with them today.”I generally get a little bit embarrassed when people start talking about me, and even having a whole lunch break in a Test match dedicated to me today is a little bit more than what I would have expected as well. But the reason it’s here is for me to come and say goodbye to the Hobart fans and people of Tasmania who have looked after me so well over a long period of time.”As for those final moments in Perth, particularly his opponents’ spontaneous gestures of thanks for a career spanning 17 years and innumerable achievements, Ponting said they would not soon be forgotten. “That is something I’ll never, ever forget,” he said. “When I pulled Graeme Smith out of the line and shook his hand I said ‘I really appreciate this’ and he said ‘no, you deserve it, but just make sure you don’t get too many against us today’.”I thought all the running around that was happening after I got out was just them celebrating the wicket, but they were actually running over to try to shake my hand and say congratulations on my career. Robin Peterson got me out and actually apologised, he said ‘I’m sorry about that’.”So there were a couple of things that took me by surprise, the guard of honour and then all of them running to me on the way off. I got 10 metres from the gate and realised I hadn’t said goodbye to the crowd either, so I had to take my helmet off, and do all that stuff, and make sure that I acknowledged my family, and everyone there as well. A lot of those are memories I’ll never forget.”Before Ponting thinks about whether he might play another season, he has the BBL to negotiate, flying to join the Hurricanes ahead of their date with Shane Warne’s Melbourne Stars on Saturday. But the enthusiasm that has always been there for any game of cricket is quickly being tested by the more leisurely life. “I’m actually missing a training session so it’s not that bad,” Ponting said. “The boys are over in Melbourne training at the moment, so I’d rather be here I think.”

Contratado após a queda do Flamengo na Copa do Brasil, para o Corinthians na semifinal, Dorival Júnior comandou a equipe da Gávea nas 12 rodadas finais do Brasileirão, com sete vitórias, três empates e duas derrotas. O Rubro-Negro foi o vice-campeão, com 72 pontos, atrás do líder e campeão Palmeiras, com 80.

Na próxima temporada, o Flamengo disputará o Campeonato Carioca, a Copa Libertadores, o Campeonato Brasileiro e a Copa do Brasil. A cobrança é pela conquista de, ao menos, um título de grande expressão nacional e uma boa campanha no torneio continental, o qual o time não foi bem nos últimos anos.

Para Dorival, o Flamengo estará em boas mãos com Abel Braga, a quem fez elogios. O técnico ainda diz que o colega encontrará “ótimo material humano”, mas não confirmou que conversará com Abel sobre o assunto ainda este ano.

– Não sei se haverá essa conversa. Mas ele estará recebendo um grande grupo de trabalho. O grupo técnico, de apoio, as pessoas dentro do clube são todas de bem, excelentes profissionais e fazem com que o trabalho flua. Ter condições que lhe apresentem e com material humano, qualquer profissional se sentirá confortável para afazer o seu trabalho e buscar o melhor. O treinador terá toda a condição. O Abel é mais que vivido e experiente, vai desenvolver o seu melhor. O desfecho negativo à negociação se deu com a chegada de Sampaoli ao Peixe. O argentino considera o atacante um dos melhores de seu elenco e deixou claro à diretoria que espera a manutenção do jogador para 2019. O Cruzeiro também manifestou interesse em Bruno, mas as negociações não caminharam. Bruno Henrique tem contrato com o Santos até janeiro de 2021.

Peter Siddle is taking on the mantle of leadership and example among Australia’s bowlers that – until recently – Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey held for the batsmen.Mitchell Starc attributed his much improved display on the final day of the Hobart Test against Sri Lanka to being lifted by Siddle’s efforts, which matched his Herculean display against South Africa in Adelaide.A prodigious talent, Starc is pleasing Australia’s selectors, coaches and the captain Michael Clarke by gathering in consistency and nous each time he bowls in a Test, and also by staying fit when so many around him are falling prey to injury.His fiendish burst of reverse swing on an uneven final day surface at Bellerive Oval was arguably Starc’s best display to for his country to date, and he put much of it down to watching Siddle give his all in the spell that preceded it.”Sidds was outstanding again in Hobart and was pretty much the heart and soul of the attack,” Starc said. “For me just to follow on from him, I played pretty much a supporting role with Sidds there probably deserving 10 wickets. Not just the bowlers [are lifted by Siddle], the whole team is.”Having him around the squad he’s full of energy and he’s always giving 100% whether it be in the nets or in the field and that drags the whole squad along. As he’s shown in Adelaide, though unfortunately not getting over the line there, but again in Hobart pretty similar performances where he’s given absolutely everything he’s had. He’s sat down and had nothing left after the game. It was great for him we got that result after what happened in Adelaide.”When you have guys like Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey in the squad they bring so much energy and a different feel to the group. I think Sidds is well on the way to being someone like that, who just lifts everyone up. When he’s on bowling you know something most likely is going to happen.”Starc’s progress has been helped greatly by his developing durability, which has allowed him to be fit for selection whenever Australia’s selectors have come calling over the past 12 months. By avoiding the treatment table, Starc is gathering in knowledge about his bowling, aided by advice from the likes of Wasim Akram, Jason Gillespie and the Australian bowling coaches past and present, Craig McDermott and Ali de Winter.”That consistency is coming. I’ve got to find that balance between being over aggressive and containing one end. That will come, I’m still learning, I’m only 22,” Starc said. “I’m taking it all in my stride and learning from each game. That’s something we did from the game in Perth – I went for a few runs there.”In Hobart we had 450 runs on the board so you can afford to be a bit aggressive there. As you saw I went for a couple of runs but we got the win in the end so we can take some confidence from that and being able to get that result even with a bowler down as well.”Injuries are unfortunate, they seem to go hand in hand with fast bowling. I’m looking after myself doing all I can to stay on the park and make sure I’m recovering well and playing well. You can’t worry too much about what the other guys are doing. Can’t worry too much about what the others are doing but we’re all preparing the way we can and stay on the park.”Despite his strong last-day form in Hobart, Starc may yet find himself carrying the drinks on Boxing Day in order to ensure he maintains his run of games without injury, the better to be fit for his home Test at the SCG from January 3. Mitchell Johnson and Jackson Bird are both a chance of being called into the Test side for the final match of 2012. However Starc is eager to bowl at the MCG, having also run the drinks in the corresponding match last year.”It’s always a big occasion the Boxing Day Test. If I get the nod to play for Australia again it’s going to be a nice one to run out in front of a big crowd,” Starc said. “Hopefully I can contribute again if I get the chance in Melbourne.”

Bruno Henrique, por exemplo, efetuou 61 roubos de bola, enquanto que Moisés apenas 43. Dentro deste cenário, é o Profeta quem parece estar mais ameaçado pela chegada do novo reforço. Além de ter tido números defensivos mais discretos, o atual 10 palmeirense marcou somente duas vezes na competição e não deu nenhuma assistência. Uma queda de rendimento em relação a 2017, quando marcou três vezes e deu três passes para gol. Algo que pode lhe custar a posição nesta temporada.

Mesmo não tendo um histórico de artilheiro, Zé Rafael chega ao Palmeiras após o seu melhor ano ofensivo. Com 13 gols em 68 partidas em 2018, bateu seu recorde de bolas na rede em uma mesma temporada, que até então havia sido no Londrina, em 2016, onde marcou oito vezes em 42 jogos. Tentativas também, não faltaram. O jogador foi o 2º que mais arriscou finalizações no Brasileiro, com 87 arremates. Apenas Lucas Paquetá, ex-Flamengo e negociado com o Milan, tentou mais vezes: 92.

O aproveitamento do meia, porém, não foi dos melhores. Zé acertou o alvo somente 34 vezes, ou seja, em 39% das chances criadas. Foi a pior marca entre os oito atletas que mais arriscaram na edição. Além de Paquetá (50%) e do ex-Bahia, completam o top 8 Gabigol (47%), Ricardo Oliveira (52%), Everton (51%) – Grêmio -, Pikachu (53%), Nico López (52%) e Leandro Pereira (50%). Ainda assim, seu desempenho foi superior ao de Moisés, que tentou muito menos – apenas 21 finalizações – e acertou, proporcionalmente, menos (38%).

A única mudança garantida no time titular de Felipão, por enquanto, é em razão da lesão de Willian, que só retornará aos gramados no segundo semestre. Por característica, os rápidos Carlos Eduardo e Felipe Pires, também recém-contratados, surgem como prováveis substitutos. No caso de uma opção por um meia criativo, Scarpa e Lucas Lima surgem como favoritos. Neste caso, parece que Zé Rafael disputará uma posição mais atrás, possivelmente com Moisés. E se depender dos números do último ano, larga na frente.
