An all-round performance from India Emerging Players helped them seal a comfortable nine-wicket win over New Zealand A at Endeavour Park No. 2 in Townsville. They slumped from 205 for 5 to 239 all out with seamer R Vinay Kumar picking up three of the last five wickets to fall, to end up with figures of 4 for 33.India raced through the chase, despite losing captain Shikhar Dhawan with the score on 10. Ajinkya Rahane and CM Gautam forged an unbeaten 98-run partnership at close to six runs an over, to carry India home. With six points for their outright win, India are the top of the points table while New Zealand, who were docked three points for being three overs short of their minimum target of overs, are in third position.Half-centuries from Ryan Carters and Jon Holland helped Australian Institute of Sport draw their match against South Africa Emerging Players at Endeavour Park.Australia began the third day trailing South Africa’s first-innings score by 160 with 10 wickets in hand. They lost their openers early and while a third-wicket partnership of 43 between Tim Armstrong and Tom Beaton steadied the innings, Dale Deeb struck to dismiss both batsmen in quick succession to leave Australia struggling at 79 for 4. They lost two further wickets and at 135 for 6, South Africa looked like they could press for victory. They were, however, thwarted by a dogged 121-run seventh-wicket partnership between captain Carters and No. 8 Holland that lifted Australia for 256 for 6. Holland fell for 61 and Carters soon followed for 70, but the duo had done enough to haul their team out of trouble and ensure a draw. With two draws in two games, Australia are yet to earn a point and are second on the points table with South Africa placed fourth.

Há quase dez anos, Diego Souza deu show e fez o Palmeiras acabar com o jejum no local, vencendo com dois gols dele por 2 a 1.

A destacada atuação do camisa 9 ocorreu em 31 de agosto de 2008, pelo Campeonato Brasileiro. O Verdão nunca tinha vencido no estádio até aquele jogo, quando seu então camisa 7 abriu o placar aos 19 minutos do primeiro tempo, completando de cabeça um cruzamento de Elder Granja. Na etapa final, aos 14, Alan Bahia converteu pênalti, mas Diego Souza definiu com um golaço, pedalando e limpando três antes de fazer de canhota, aos 27.

Diego Souza passou em branco nos dois últimos jogos, e o time não venceu, perdendo para o Palmeiras por 3 a 1 no Allianz Parque e ficando no 0 a 0 diante do Inter, no Morumbi. Mas o camisa 9 é o artilheiro do clube na temporada, com oito gols, e, em Curitiba, voltará a formar o trio END com Nenê, que cumpriu suspensão na última rodada, e Everton. Os três participaram de 12 dos 14 gols da equipe no Brasileiro.

É com esse espírito que o São Paulo busca uma afirmação de que pode brigar pelo título brasileiro já acabando com um tabu de 19 anos. Aquele 2008 em que Diego Souza foi herói do Palmeiras para encerrar com o jejum terminou com a última conquista nacional do Tricolor. Não faltam sinais para ter esperança na primeira vitória no estádio do Atlético-PR e no sucesso da equipe.

Allrounder Elton Chigumbura was the surprise inclusion in Zimbawe’s one-day squad for the series against Pakistan after missing out on the one-off Test because of a knee injured that required an MRI to diagnose the extent of the problem. The squad is essentially the same one that beat Bangladesh 3-2, but there were two changes – Chamu Chibhabha, who was in the Test squad, replaced the injured Keegan Meth while Forster Mutizwa missed out as only 14 players were included.Chigumbura did not play the Test against Pakistan after failing to recover from a bruise he sustained on his left knee during the penultimate ODI against Bangladesh on August 19. He played the final ODI of the series on August 21 with the injury. Subsequently Zimbabwe’s physio, Amato Machikicho, said a scan had been requested so a definitive diagnosis and recovery timetable could be specified for Chigumbura’s condition.Mutizwa played all five games against Bangladesh, and made an unbeaten 27 in the first match to help Zimbabwe overhaul a modest target of 184. But he struggled to make an impact in the rest of the series, ending up with a total of 65 runs at an average of 21.66 and a strike-rate of 59.63.Meanwhile Meth, who was hit on flush on the mouth in his follow-through during the final one-dayer against Bangladesh, losing four teeth and suffering lacerated lips, faces a three-month wait for the bones in his jaw to heal before he can undergo reconstructive surgery. An outstanding and unbeaten 65-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Ferguson and Nathan Lyon saw the Redbacks past Western Australia’s 233 with two overs to spare, after Luke Ronchi’s hundred rescued the Warriors from a poor start.The fortunes of both sides changed significantly throughout the contest, as first the Warriors struggled to 7 for 123 before Ronchi and Nathan Rimmington compiled a terrific 110-run stand that pushed them to a competitive 7 for 233. Then it was South Australia’s turn to worry, as they lost a wicket from the first ball of their chase and then battled to 8 for 170.From there, it was Ferguson and Lyon who saved the day for the hosts. Ferguson’s classy innings was a career-best as he paced the effort perfectly, taking his time early and playing a few more shots as his partners continued to disappear.But it was Lyon who struck the winning runs, with a powerful pull for six off Rimmington confirming the two-wicket victory and allowing him to finish unbeaten on 37. Nathan Coulter-Nile had picked up 3 for 64 in a strong display, while Michael Beer was superb with 3 for 39, including Daniel Harris lbw playing back to the first ball of the innings as Marcus North opened up with spin.The Redbacks had also opened with spin earlier in the day, but it was Gary Putland’s early strikes that put Western Australia on the back foot as he swung the ball dangerously and took three wickets in his first spell. The legspinner Cullen Bailey, playing his first one-day game for his state in five years, collected two lower-order wickets before Ronchi led the recovery.It was a wonderful innings from Ronchi, who has struggled to hold his place as Western Australia’s first-choice gloveman in the past couple of seasons. He was watchful early but cut loose later, taking 25 from the last over as the nerves began to affect Kane Richardson.It was in that 50th over that Ronchi brought up his hundred and the milestone clearly meant a lot, as he pumped his fist and jumped for joy, having secured his place in the team and given the Warriors hope of victory. In the end, their top-order troubles still cost them, and they are still looking for their first win of the Ryobi Cup.

Visando as dificuldades do confronto, o zagueiro do Papão, Douglas Mendes, destacou o desejo do grupo em voltar ao caminho das vitórias na equilibrada competição.
