Matheus Babo – Editor do LANCE!

“É preciso ter calma nas comparações”

Os números e as atuações de Paulinho no Vasco são excelentes. O menino de 17 anos é muito promissor e tem um futuro grandioso pela frente. A expectativa nele só cresce, mas é preciso ter calma em comparações. Paulinho tem que ser ele mesmo. Assim, com a bom suporte da família e a boa cabeça que tem, vai chegar muito longe.

Celtic: Hoops set to miss out on Murphy

Newcastle United are set to beat Celtic to the capture of Galway United youngster Alex Murphy.

The lowdown: Celtic eyeing up young talent

Celtic signed Johnny Kenny from Sligo Rovers in January for a nominal fee, clearly looking to build up from the bottom, strengthening the squad of the future.

The Hoops were then linked with 17-year-old defender Murphy in February amidst interest from West Brom and Serie A outfit Torino.

At that time, the seriousness of the interest from the Premier League club was apparent as an initial report from the Irish Examiner claimed a €100,000 (£83,000) offer had already been made.

Nowm it appears as though Celtic were ultimately unable to land their target, as another English side have swooped in…

The latest: Money talks

According to a report from RTE, newly mega-rich Newcastle have won the race to sign the talented teenager.

It’s claimed that Murphy will move to St James’ Park in the summer after turning 18 on June 25.

Celtic are once again mentioned as being amongst the interest parties to miss out on the twice-capped Republic of Ireland Under 16 starlet as well as Brighton & Hove Albion.

The verdict: Big blow

After signing a first professional contract with Galway in August 2021, manager John Caulfield described the youngster’s career trajectory as ‘very good’ amidst growing speculation around his future.

Despite his tender years, the teenager has made seven senior appearances in the Irish first division already – completing 90 minutes on five occasions.

Whilst it remains to be seen whether Murphy can make the grade in the English top-flight, the Celtic hierarchy will no doubt be disappointed to miss out on a highly-rated youngster, although this type of attempted capture does show where the Hoops’ upcoming transfer targets may lie.

Sarwan not surprised by WICB's contract snub

Ramnaresh Sarwan, the West Indies batsman, has said that he wasn’t surprised at being dropped from the WICB’s list of contracted players

Ramnaresh Sarwan: “I continue to be fully committed to representing the West Indies and at this point I am fitter than I was a year ago.”•AFP

Ramnaresh Sarwan, the West Indies batsman, has said that he wasn’t surprised at being dropped from the WICB’s list of contracted players and that the disappointment would not affect his focus in leading Guyana’s Champions League Twenty20 campaign in South Africa.Sarwan said he had been expecting the setback. “I knew for about three weeks now and even before that I was reading between the lines,” he told CMC. “I am disappointed that it seems I am most times singled out for special attention by the board. At times I get the impression that some people believe that I deliberately get injured and that could be more frustrating than the injury. I continue to be fully committed to representing the West Indies and at this point I am fitter than I was a year ago.”Sarwan’s immediate assignment, is to captain Guyana in the financially-lucrative Champions League, which begins on September 10. “My focus is on ensuring our team represents Guyana and the entire region in the best possible way in South Africa,” he said. “We have a job to do in South Africa and me not getting a contract is not a distraction. They (WICB) made their decision and they must have their reasons.”The WICB announced its list of contracted players on August 31 and later released a statement backing the selection committee’s decision to cut Sarwan. “The team management, selection committee and the WICB are concerned about Sarwan’s extremely indifferent attitude and sporadic approach towards fitness, particularly in recent years,” read the statement. It also said that contracts had not been awarded to fast bowler Jerome Taylor and batsman Narsingh Deonarine because of their fitness issues.

Tottenham in Carter-Vickers exit talks

As per The Daily Record, there has been a big Tottenham Hotspur exit update as the club open talks to sell loanee Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers permanently.

The Lowdown: Carter-Vickers shining in Scotland…

The USA international has been indispensable for Ange Postecoglou north of the border since joining ex-Spurs goalkeeper Joe Hart at Parkhead.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Raving about Carter-Vickers to the Scottish press, Hoops team-mate Greg Taylor described the defender as ‘outstanding’ for his performances on the pitch whilst calling him a ‘huge’ part of the reason they have been successful so far over 2021/22 (The Scotsman).

As a result, the Glasgow giants are keen to tie him down permanently, and they possess a £6m purchase option which could rise as high as £10m with add-ons (The Daily Record).

The Latest: Spurs open talks over Carter-Vickers exit…

According to The Daily Record, Tottenham have now opened talks with Celtic over a permanent exit for Carter-Vickers with negotiations ongoing.

In addition, sources from the player’s camp believe that Parkhead is the perfect place for the American to develop his game and keep improving away from Spurs.

The Verdict: Get it done…

Tottenham could stand to benefit from a small financial windfall if they can come to a suitable agreement with both parties, and the Lilywhites will need some off-field assistance given their mounting club debt.

Carter-Vickers has made precious few senior appearances in north London and the best solution for Spurs could certainly be to offload the 24-year-old for a profit.

There have been doubts over Celtic’s ability to afford the £10m fee, but as talks remain ongoing, theoretically a compromise may not be out of the question depending on developments.

It is believed that Carter-Vickers is ‘very keen’ to leave Spurs for Glasgow in a permanent move, and Fabio Paratici should be doing everything possible to make that a reality.

Celtic: Albian Ajeti is stealing a living

Having joined Celtic in a £5m move back in 2020, expectations were high for Albian Ajeti at Parkhead.

Indeed, Neil Lennon stated upon the Switzerland international’s arrival in Glasgow: “We are delighted to bring Albian to Celtic. He is a tremendous player, an international with real quality and I know he is really determined to do all he can to bring more success to our supporters.

“I have admired him for a long time as he is a really intelligent footballer, well balanced and a really good finisher. We are so pleased to make him a Celtic player and we hope he has a long and prosperous career with us.”

However, despite this early expectation, just one and a half years down the line, the 24-year-old’s career in Glasgow already appears to all but be at an end, with Ajeti having been heavily linked with a move away from Celtic in the January transfer window.

Indeed, following Ange Postecoglou’s signings of Kyogo Furuhashi, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Daizen Maeda, Ajeti now appears to be well down the attacking pecking order at Celtic Park – something that is hardly surprising considering the £2.25m-rated man’s returns since joining the club.

Over his 48 appearances for the Hoops, the former West Ham United striker has scored just nine goals and registered five assists, while he also earned an extremely disappointing seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.85 over his 20 Premiership appearances in 2020/21 – ranking him as Celtic’s joint 12th-worst performer in the league last season.

Things have not improved for the £18k-per-week striker this time around, either, with the forward averaging a match rating of 6.72 over his seven league outings, before sustaining a “significant” hamstring injury back in December.

These returns have, rather understandably, seen the 11-time capped international come in for criticism, with Packie Bonner stating of the 24-year-old: “If he’s not scoring goals, what else is he doing? That’s the problem. What else is he doing? How does he lend himself to the team?”

As such, considering the fact that Ajeti has so far cost the Bhoys roughly £6.5m in wages and transfer fees combined over his 79-week stay at Celtic Park, it is clear for all to see that the centre-forward is stealing a living from the Hoops – something that Postecoglou simply must address this summer.

Forget Masuaku: Moyes must finally unleash "tremendous" 21 y/o West Ham sensation - opinion

With West Ham United manager David Moyes recently revealing that Arthur Masuaku is set to see a specialist regarding a knee injury, the 58-year-old has been left with just one fit senior option in the position – Aaron Cresswell.

And, with the 32-year-old having himself picked up a number of niggling injuries in recent seasons, not least a knock to his back which saw him sidelined for all of the hectic Christmas period, it is easy to see why Moyes had targeted the signing of a left-sided defender this January.

However, with no new left-back having been signed last month, and the condition of Masuaku looking rather uncertain, now would very much appear to be the perfect time for the Scotsman to take a closer look at one of the club’s most exciting up and coming youth prospects in the shape of Emmanuel Longelo.

“Tremendous” talent

Having been linked with a switch to all of Wycombe Wanderers, Ipswich Town, Peterborough United and Nottingham Forest last month, the 21-year-old left-back is clearly a player who many believe has a bright future in the professional game.

Indeed, the £135k-rated defender has highly impressed for the Hammers U23 side this season, registering three assists over his 13 Premier League 2 appearances, in addition to averaging a SofaScore match rating of 7.00 in his three Papa John’s Trophy outings.

This form even led to Moyes handing the youngster his Europa League debut in the 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb, a game in which, despite the scoreline, Longelo once again impressed, enjoying 87 touches of the ball, completing 36 passes, attempting seven long balls and four crosses, as well as successfully completing one dribble.

The 21-year-old who Dmitri Halajko dubbed a “tremendous” talent also made a total of two tackles, one interception, three clearances and won four of his five ground duels – with these metrics seeing the left-back average a very respectable SofaScore match rating of 6.7 against the Croatian outfit.

As such, with the games coming thick and fast for West Ham in the coming weeks, it would appear an extremely wise move for Moyes to finally unleash Longelo in the Premier League.

Indeed, not only would this help to keep Cresswell injury-free in the absence of Masuaku, but it would also help further develop an extremely exciting youth prospect – something that could end up saving the club millions in pounds of transfer fees this summer.
